Aceh, Indonesia Flag

This first leg was 283 nmiles and took DJV 58 hours … just under 2.5 days.  The biggest hazard for us was shipping, coming out of and going into the Malacca Straits.

* The quantity of shipping you would not believe … and they travel at an average speed of 20 knots … a constant reason for a thorough lookout!    *

We took our first break in a small bay on the northern tip of Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia (Pulau We).  Other yachties had recommended this anchorage (actually there were moorings there to placate the visiting yachts) and the rest was very welcome.  I/we had been going hard for what seemed months and I guess it was, as this journey followed hard on the heels of a 4,200 nmile movement around the West/East coast of the Malaysian mainland and then across the South China Sea to Borneo.

This bay was guarded by a very small, poor, village … with a couple of restaurants to satisfy visitors.  It seemed travelers come here to dive and snorkel.

*      It’s blurred … but I liked the colours and effect!        *
